Ellie is an artist based in Leicestershire. Ever since she was little, she has always had a passion for art and creativity. Her love of it led her to study at Leicester College, where she achieved a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design. She went on to study at De Montfort University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Fine Art. Soon after, Ellie was a finalist in the Leicester Society of Artists Student Award 2024/25, exhibiting her work in the Atrium Gallery at De Montfort University in Leicester during January and February 2025.
Working with textiles, Ellie uses the freehand machine embroidery technique to sew onto water soluble fabric, so only the threads remain. Using the sewing machine as a brush and the thread as the paint, she creates drawings and paintings with stitch. She also draws using pencil and fineliner, and explores the printmaking technique of linocut. Through the medium of paint, Ellie works onto MDF board using water mixable oils.
Ellie is hugely inspired by nature, as she has always been fascinated by it. She is drawn to the woodlands and the wide varieties of fungi, leaves and trees that are found there. She is interested in the intricate, small and intriguing formations that often go unnoticed, as well as the pure tranquillity of the woodland itself. Through exploring the incredible and organic colours and forms, her work recognises, appreciates and celebrates the peace, beauty and wonder of the natural world.
In her art, Ellie also delves into a world of medieval fantasy, another big inspiration for her work. Her creation of mythical creatures, characters and landscapes transport her to a mystical realm of sword and sorcery. Art, nature and fantasy are important parts of Ellie’s life, so in her practice she brings them together to create and enter her own world in her work. She wishes to share her love of nature and fantasy through her art.
